ABOUT US

Ciudad Nueva Community Outreach is a holistic, asset-based, Christian community development nonprofit organization that has been working alongside our neighbors to empower youth, support families, equip leaders, and strengthen community in the Rio Grande neighborhood of downtown El Paso since 2004.  We envision a thriving community with residents participating at every level of neighborhood transformation and that transformed individuals and communities would become agents of change locally, nationally, and internationally.

Abara is a nonprofit organization located in El Paso, Texas, working to inspire connections, provide educational opportunities and respond to pressing needs on the U.S.-Mexico border. We are made up of local listeners, everyday peace builders, contemplative activists, long-term guests, and lifelong learners. Abara means “ford” in a number of semitic languages and our desire is to cultivate space where people move in humility across divides, learn from each other, and jointly address pressing concerns in love. We do this through our work at Abara House, through Border Response (alongside the Migrant Shelter Network), and in our Border Encounters experiences.

The Institute for Diversity and Civic Life is a non-profit organization with a mission to create more inclusive public spaces through storytelling, research, and education. IDCL is on a mission to expand civic imaginations and build bridges across differences through storytelling, research, and education. Our programs harness the power of stories to transform. We create platforms to amplify underrepresented voices, empower Texans to tell their stories on their own terms and in more nuanced ways, and diversify the historical record. Our programs bridge academic and public conversations, cultivate conversations about belonging and recognition, and facilitate collaboration across communities.
